1. Product description

Rayson PrimeBond E20 is a two-component, medium-viscosity, solvent-free epoxy bonding primer that anchors resin floor systems to concrete, screed, asphalt and prepared metal — on dry or damp substrates.

PrimeBond E20 is the workhorse primer of the Rayson range. A medium-viscosity, solvent-free two-component epoxy, it penetrates mechanically prepared substrates and forms the adhesion bridge that the rest of the floor system depends on. In pull-off testing on properly prepared concrete, bond strength exceeds the cohesive strength of the concrete itself — failure occurs in the substrate, not the primer.

  • Priming new and existing concrete before Rayson floor coatings
  • Priming cementitious screeds, including highly absorbent substrates
  • Priming over sound existing epoxy flooring before recoating
  • Priming asphalt surfaces before compatible overlays
  • Priming mechanically prepared metal surfaces

3. Suitable substrates

  • New and existing concrete (minimum 28 days old, moisture content below 5%)
  • Cementitious screeds, including highly absorbent substrates
  • Sound existing epoxy flooring
  • Asphalt
  • Mechanically prepared metal

4. Key properties

6. Technical data

Surface preparation Substrate must be sound, clean and free of oil, grease, laitance, loose material and bond-inhibiting contaminants. Prepare concrete mechanically (captive shot blasting, milling or diamond grinding); remove weak concrete, open blowholes and voids, and reinstate imperfections with a suitable Rayson repair product. Vacuum all dust. New concrete should be at least 28 days old.
Mixing / dilution Two pre-weighed parts, mix ratio 2:1 (A:B) by weight; mix mechanically for at least 2–3 minutes; pot life up to 30 minutes at 30 °C
Application method Roller, Brush, Airless spray
Coverage 6–8 m² per kg per coat, varying with substrate condition and porosity
Application conditions Minimum substrate temperature 5 °C; substrate moisture content max 5%; minimum mixing temperature +10 °C; cure between +10 °C and +35 °C; prepared substrate pull-off strength above 1.5 N/mm².
Drying & curing Final cure 7 days
Recoat interval Overcoat once the primer is touch dry and within the system recoat window; timings temperature-dependent.
Film / thickness Applied as a penetrating primer coat; consumption governs film — see coverage.
Pack sizes Part A 13.34 kg can + Part B 6.66 kg can
Storage Minimum 12 months at 5–35 °C in unopened original packaging; protect from direct sunlight.

8. Recommended system

Standard epoxy floor system

  1. Mechanically prepare and vacuum the substrate
  2. Prime with Rayson PrimeBond E20
  3. Apply Rayson LevelShield SL120 self-levelling body coat

Repair-then-coat system

  1. Prime with Rayson PrimeBond E20
  2. Reinstate defects with Rayson MortarBond EM90 epoxy mortar
  3. Overcoat with the specified Rayson floor finish
